Salem, Ore. — In South Salem, an individual departed from an apartment where a man was discovered fatally shot following a dispute. According to the Salem Police Department, this person led officers on a pursuit and later crashed before using a firearm on themselves.

The incident unfolded around 6:25 a.m. on Sunday when officers received multiple reports of gunfire at an apartment close to Liberty Road South. Witnesses recounted hearing an argument followed by gunshots, after which an individual drove away in a vehicle, leaving a man deceased from a gunshot wound.

An officer located and trailed the suspect’s car traveling southbound on Commercial Street Southeast. The vehicle crashed through two business buildings near the 4700 block of Commercial Street. The driver was found deceased from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound, as confirmed by Salem police.

No identities have been disclosed to the public at this time.

The Salem Police Violent Crimes Unit and Traffic Team are conducting investigations into the two deaths. Throughout the investigative process, Commercial Street remained closed between Boone Road and Hilfiker Lane Southeast for a duration of four hours.
