PORTLAND, Ore.– New Portland Mayor-Elect Keith Wilson will make his official acceptance speech today, at 12:30 p.m. at the Charles Jordan Community Center on North Foss Avenue.  His campaign says he will outline his priorities for the coming months.  Everyone’s welcome to attend.

Partial results show Wilson leading Portland City Commissioner Carmen Rubio is 62% to 38%. According to Oregon Live, there are not enough ballots left to be counted for Rubio to make up the difference. Wilson, a trucking company C.E.O. who has no political or government experience, made a promise to voters to end unsheltered homelessness within a year in the city.

“This is about creating a clear plan with an objective. I’ve done the research. I’ve gathered the team. I’ve opened shelters and I have a road map to begin to end on shelter homelessness next year with the county as partners.”

Wilson will take over in January, replacing Ted Wheeler, who has led the city for the last eight years.
