In the early hours of Sunday morning, a house fire broke out at a rural property on Jackson Quarry Road in western Washington County, prompting multiple 911 calls. Swift action was taken as firefighters from Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue (TVF&R) and Hillsboro Fire & Rescue were promptly dispatched to the scene.

Upon receiving information that the back of the house was ablaze, firefighters from TVF&R’s North Plains Station 17 were immediately informed, leading to the incident being upgraded to a first alarm. This ensured that sufficient resources were deployed to combat the fire, including additional water tenders required to shuttle water to the location due to the absence of fire hydrants in the remote area.

Upon arrival, the firefighters wasted no time and initiated aggressive measures to prevent the flames from spreading to a nearby structure. However, they soon faced challenges as the second floor of the house was deemed unstable, hampering their ability to fully access and extinguish the fire. In light of this, the incident commander instructed the crews to avoid the compromised area and explore alternative approaches to tackle the blaze.

Approximately 40 firefighters rallied together, working tirelessly for nearly two hours to bring the fire under control. Unfortunately, despite their valiant efforts, the home and all its contents were tragically consumed by the flames. However, there was a silver lining in the midst of the devastation as the residents managed to evacuate on their own and emerged unharmed. Miraculously, no firefighters suffered injuries during the firefighting operations.

The cause of the fire remains a mystery, leaving investigators with the task of determining its origin. As the investigation continues, the affected residents will now face the challenging task of rebuilding their lives after this unfortunate incident.

Our thoughts go out to the impacted family, and we commend the brave firefighters who risked their lives to protect the community. Updates on the investigation into the cause of the fire will be provided as soon as they become available.
