FBI Portland Police Double Up On Gun Violence

PORTLAND, Ore– Three murders in a week caught everyone’s attention.  The FBI and Portland Police teamed up over the weekend to attempt to break up a vicious cycle of violence.  Still there were two shootings Sunday.  A woman was found dead and a man was seriously injured.  So far this month five people have been killed.

The partnership between police and the FBI sent out a team of eight investigators and three agents.  The idea is get shooters off the streets, seize the weapons and follow up on all leads quickly.

Police received information that there could be retaliation shootings in the city over the next 30 days.  That’s why portland police and the FBI wanted to move on their efforts.  Portland Police Chuck Lovell shared recent statistics with reporters.  As of May 1, 2021 there have been 40 shots fired calls, and 231 shell casings found and 4 homicides and 14 people injured in those shootings.  The bureau’s Enhanced Community Safety Team is newer and welcomes the added assistance form the FBI and other community partners.
