SPOKANE, Wa. —  They’re the two men who want to be Washington’s next governor. The state’s current Attorney General, Democrat Bob Ferguson, faced off against former Congressman Republican Dave Reichert at the debate in Spokane.

Reichert spoke first.  “How did Washington State get to where it is today? It’s through choices that we made.  We elected leaders in our state that, in my opinion, made the wrong decisions that led us to a road where we have one of the highest crime rates, one of the highest homelessness rates, people dying in the streets of fentanyl.”

Next up, Democrat Bob Ferguson said,  “Washington State is facing many challenges. Public safety, an opioid epidemic. Washingtonians paying too much for their housing and their groceries. We need a governor who’s a change agent. At the same time, a governor who will defend our core freedoms, like reproductive freedom.  As your Attorney General, I’ve taken on some of the biggest corporations in the world when they broke the rules.”

The two candidates will be on November’s ballot, competing to replace 3 term Governor Jay Inslee, who decided against running for another term.
