Washington Lawmaker Suggests Arming Teachers

Liz Pike
Washington State District 18 Representative Elect Liz Pike tells KXL she wanted to see what reaction her idea to arm teachers in the classroom would get so she put it on her Facebook page. She says about 70% of the people who have responded to her have been in favor.
Pike says she would like to model it after the program that arms pilots in cockpits. She says there would be an extensive background check plus training and that the weapons would remain on the person of the teacher. She says it would be a voluntary program.
Pike says after the tragic shootings in Connecticut something needs to be done to protect our children in the classroom. Pike adds as many as 5 other Washington State legislators are working on similar legislation.
