New Portland Elected Officials Deal with Budget
Portland Mayor Elect Charlie Hales and Commissioner Elect Steve Novick both joined the table at city hall Tuesday to talk about important issues including the budget. Mayor Sam Adams and others shared how the city is in a $24 million dollar hole. Adams suggested a tax on land-line phone providers to pay for police bureau reforms. He also said that he and the county have agreed on a deal to let the city of the hook for 12 million in additional Sellwood Bridge costs.
Ultimately, the budget shortfall will be Hales' responsibility.
