Man Arrested For Assaulting Firefighters

A man attempting to put out a duplex fire in Salem Tuesday was arrested for assaulting Firefighters. Crews were called around 2pm to Plateau St NE. When they arrived, a portion of the house was engulfed in fire. Garry Wiltsey was inside the home trying to put the fire out with a garden hose. Firefighters attempted to get Wiltsey to leave so they could fight the fire, but Wiltsey refused. He became combative and began to physical assault the firefighters. Salem police had to subdue Wiltsey and took him into custody. He was charged with Assault in the 3rd Degree, Interfering with a Firefighter, and Animal Neglect in the 2nd Degree. No cause of the fire has been released. The investigation continues.
