A bill to make brewer's yeast the official state microbe is just one of the measures filed by the 5pm deadline for introducing bills  this legislative session. Republican Mark Johnson from Hood River  is the brains behind that idea. Other  bills scooting in before the deadline...... a bill to  slap a tax of beer and wine to pay for schools, another that would let the boss pay you the federal minimum wage for 90 days if you are younger than 20. It's lower than the state minimum. A ban on assault style weapons has been filed. So has a bill that would make bicyclists pay a toll every time they pedal across the interstate bridge. Republican Representative Kevin Cameron from Salem says cyclists use the bridge; so why not make them help pay for the  Columbia River Crossing project. Something for the cannabis crowd too; a proposal to make it legal to smoke pot if you are 21 or over and  a tax on pot production.
